How to Clean Acrylic

Acrylic, also known as plexiglass, is a durable plastic often used as a safe alternative to glass. It is shatter-resistant, transparent and versatile, making it a popular material for using in a wide variety of products, and is easy to maintain with just a few easy steps.

Dust can be gently wiped away with a soft, clean microfiber cloth. Soap and water can take care of most dirt and debris. Dip a clean mircofiber cloth into a diluted mixture of soap and water or soap and dishwasher fluid. Wring the cloth out until it's just damp and gently blot the acrylic, buffing the surface until it's clean. For tougher dirt and grime, use a commercial plastic cleaner or plexiglass cleaner. Follow the product's label for proper use.

Never use harsh, abrasive chemicals or cleaners such as Windex or any cleaner that contains ammonia. These chemicals can break down the acrylic and give it a cloudy appearance. Also, be sure to use a clean microfiber cloth. Small particles or dirt that are trapped in the cloth could scratch the acrylic's surface. Never use the same cloth that you clean other items with, as these may contain grime or chemical residue.

How to Clean Acrylic Scratches

If the acrylic develops scratches on the surface, use a commercial acrylic scratch remover. Many come in different formulations for removing light to heavy scratches. Carefully follow the product's instructions to remove scratches from acrylic.
